Instructors


Alex Acevedo is the founder of the Peekskill Fencing Center. He has been involved in fencing since 1989 and has been teaching at the Center for four years primarily in foil. He competed on the Brooklyn College Fencing team. Alex hold coaches certifications from national and international organizations. 


 

Joseph Paterno comes to us from a long career in fencing that started in Long Island.  He has competed on the national level and is the winner of multiple Sectional Titles in Long Island. Joe is happy to be back in fencing and looks forward to seeing our fencers in the Nationals.



 

Max Catala comes to us after coaching at several area colleges.  Max was the Head Coach at Brooklyn, Hunter, Jersey State College and New York Univeristy's Womens' Fencing Team.

Max is coordinating our Junior Olympic program and is an accomplished coach in all three weapons.


 

John Scapino trained at Salle Tanya Fencing School in Bellmore NY for ten years. Where he was coached by Russian olympic fencer, and great fencing personality, Tanya Adamovich.   John also trained at the New York Fencers Club in Manhattan for three years with NYU head coach Ed Eltermann.


Rain Rozgatsjov joined our club as an epee instructor.  Rain has recieved training as Fencing Coach in his native Estonia and trained with the Soviet Olympic teams.  Rain was ranked in the top 10 in both Estonia and the USSR. 


Cal Schlick is Head Fencing Coach at Mamaroneck High School and has been involved in fencing for over 50 years. He competed and coached at John Hopkins University, coached at the U.S. Naval Academy where his teams won the NCAA Championships in all three weapons. Cal is an accomplished teacher in all three weapons, foil, epee and sabre. He has won medals in National and International competitions.

You can catch Cal at our club giving lessons, talking to our kids and generally supporting our club.
